The Woodlands, Texas – March 18, 2025 – AmSty, one of the largest styrene producers in the Americas, announces the first sales of PolyRenew® certified recycled styrene were sold in calendar year 2024

"We're proud to be a pioneer in providing sustainable product solutions and are excited to see momentum building with customers for PolyRenew® in both styrene and polystyrene markets," said Randy Pogue, AmSty President and CEO.

PolyRenew® is AmSty's trademarked styrene and polystyrene products that are certified to be produced from recycled or sustainable raw materials.

"AmSty has consistently delivered shipments of PolyRenew® certified recycled polystyrene to customers and converters since 2023," said Pogue. "In 2024 we successfully added our first shipments of PolyRenew® Styrene to our sales portfolio. Our customers are increasingly setting ambitious sustainability goals and AmSty will play an important role in achieving their success."

AmSty can source several different types of sustainable feedstocks for their products. Using an ISCC PLUS-verified mass balance approach, the sustainable characteristics of those feedstocks can be assigned to specific shipments to AmSty customers using a credit-based system.

For example, an ISCC PLUS-certified company that purchases AmSty's PolyRenew® styrene monomer for the production of rubber destined for tires can represent that the tires are made with a percentage of recycled styrene on a mass balance basis that is third-party validated.

"AmSty is a large merchant buyer of both ethylene and benzene with a diversified domestic and global supply network," said John Medico, Vice President of Feedstocks, Styrene and Supply Chain at AmSty. "We have access to multiple sources and different types of circular and sustainable feedstocks to generate our PolyRenew® certified styrene that meets the particular requirements of our customers."

AmSty was the first U.S. company to partner with ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) to apply the organization's third-party certification system to recycled plastics in the U.S. Considered the gold standard for sustainable chemicals and plastics accreditation, ISCC PLUS is an internationally recognized certification process for circular and sustainable content that audits the supply chain from end to end. It enables ISCC PLUS-verified companies to demonstrate that the sustainability characteristics claimed at origin pass through to the final purchase are valid and verified. Today, all of AmSty's plants are ISCC PLUS certified.

"Customer acceptance of the mass balance approach is an important and significant step that allows for the leveraging of existing assets and infrastructure to deliver the most cost-effective products with origins that are verifiable as fully circular and sustainable," said Medico.
