Styrene Monomer (SM) is naturally occurring organic compound that can also be made on a commercial scale in a production plant environment. Interestingly, Styrene Monomer is found naturally occurring in strawberries, coffee beans, peanuts, and cinnamon. Commercially, SM is used directly in a variety applications including paints, coatings, electronics, and automobiles. Styrene is most commonly used as a feedstock for polystyrene plastic.
Styrene Monomer can be recycled from discarded polystyrene waste back into Recycled Styrene Monomer (RSM) through a process known as chemical recycling, which happens at AmSty's joint-venture company Regenyx in Tigard, OR. Read more about the revolutionary Regenyx technology here.
