AmSty Partners to Promote Responsible Waste Stewardship
The purpose of CHWMEG, a non-profit trade association comprised of a broad spectrum of industrial and commercial sectors including chemicals, petroleum, consumer products, pharmaceuticals and technology, is to conduct facility reviews (audits) at waste disposal and recycling facilities and make available comprehensive reports to its members.
"Since many organizations need to have confidence that their waste treatment, disposal and recycling facilities are well managed, they rely on auditing of these facilities to make decisions about vendors to use," Tim Watson, vice president of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) at AmSty. "Rather than have each disposal company subject to many audit visits from its customers and potential customers, CHWMEG performs facility reviews and then makes the resulting comprehensive reports available to its member organizations."
CHWMEG's standard facility review reports include key information about general facility management, regulatory permit status, regulatory compliance history, recent incident history, and a quantitative risk assessment of the facility, as well as a financial health assessment score for public recycling and disposal companies.
It's a valuable service that helps AmSty's governance process and "provides peace of mind that we're using facilities that are compliant with federal and state regulations and that are well-managed," said Watson.
The Facility Review Program (FRP) is the cornerstone of CHWMEG's work. Founded in 1995, the organization has conducted over 6,600 reviews at over 2,200 unique facilities in 56 countries worldwide.
