AmSty Among Finalists for Global ICIS Innovation Award
AmSty is proud to have been named a finalist for the 2023 ICIS Innovation Awards, open to companies in the chemical industry that use innovation to solve problems and provide solutions for their customers and society, as well as benefitting the environment and progressing sustainability. With offices worldwide, ICIS (Independent Commodity Intelligence Services) uses data and analytics to help companies make strategic, sustainable decisions by bringing transparency to global markets.
Specifically, AmSty was one of five finalists for the "Best Process Innovation from an SME" (small- and medium-sized enterprise) for pioneering circular recycling of polystyrene and being the first U.S. company to work with the ISCC organization to apply their third-party certification system to recycled plastics in the U.S. ISCC stands for the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification and is the global gold standard for environmental, economic and social sustainability.
Thanks to AmSty's ingenuity, polystyrene – a versatile and carbon-favorable plastic –can now be recycled over and over again by breaking it down to its original chemical structure. It then is used to make new products with the same quality and durability as virgin polystyrene, without downcycling.
With AmSty's recycled polystyrene now ISCC PLUS-certified, customers can purchase the material and claim credits to validate and verify recycled content in their packaging, providing a new level of confidence to consumers and other important stakeholders that they are committed to sustainability and making progress toward their goals.
"In today's environment, consumers are growing more aware of sustainable packaging and making choices based on it," said Tim Barnette, AmSty vice president of polymers and sustainability. "Buying products in packaging that is ISCC PLUS-certified, consumers can now feel confident that the packaging was derived from sustainable advanced recycling technologies."
"We're honored to be among a short list of companies from around the world pursuing leading-edge innovation for a more sustainable world," he said.
