AmSty Introduces Second Polystyrene Resin with Reduced Environmental Impact – PolyRenew ® 5102 HE

The Woodlands, Texas – September 18, 2019 – AmSty, a major polystyrene producer, has developed a high efficiency molding grade of polystyrene that combines a unique combination of higher temperature performance and higher flex strength as part of its flagship sustainable product line, PolyRenew®.

According to the company’s Technical Service and Development group, molders processing the new resin may realize a cycle time reduction up to 10%, along with finished part strength improvements – and potentially thinner wall sections.  Senior Technical Service and Development Leader Dave Thompson says, “This product was designed as a result of listening to our customers’ sustainability needs, for doing more with less for their own customers.” The efficiency improvements provided by this PolyRenew® resin are a reduction in manufacturing energy consumption, lower part weight, and a smaller environmental footprint, as compared to standard resin grades.

“As a leading producer of materials that enhance the quality of daily living, we are committed to finding new ways to use our resources more wisely, and to help our customers do the same,” said Jon Timbers, Director of Innovation and Sustainability for AmSty.  “From high efficiency resins to materials containing recycled content, and on to new circular pathways that unzip molecules and reuse them again, AmSty is on the leading edge of polystyrene sustainability innovation.  As a company, we are committed to a long-term goal of zero waste from polystyrene products in the environment.”
