Americas Styrenics Receives “Best in Louisiana” AwardThe Woodlands, Texas - October 25, 2013 – Americas Styrenics (AmSty) is once again the winner of the Louisiana Chemical Association’s “Best in Louisiana” Award for Safety and Environmental Excellence. The announcement was made today at the LCA’s Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA.
“This is the second year in a row we have been recognized with this award among our category of plants having 101-200 employees,” said Steve Koontz, Site Leader for AmSty’s St. James Plant. “We have worked very hard to maintain an excellent safety and environmental record at this facility, and we consider this commitment our highest priority. We’re a proud member of this community, and a great place to work.”
“Along with back-to-back wins of this prestigious award, the St. James team is setting a great example for other AmSty facilities and the industry in general having gone over three years and 2 million hours without a recordable injury,” said Brad Crocker, President and Chief Executive Officer. “I’m exceptionally proud of the team and look forward carrying their practices forward as we focus on delivering this type of environmental and safety performance throughout AmSty.”
AmSty’s St. James facility has been in operation since 1971 producing styrene monomer, used primarily as a feedstock for polystyrene. The facility is one of the largest of its kind in the world, and through the years has received numerous safety and environmental awards and certifications, including recognition as an OSHA VPP Star Site each year dating back to 2000.
