AmSty Supports Funding for Foam Recycling Grant

The Woodlands, Texas – February 17, 2015The Foam Recycling Coalition ("FRC") – a group of plastics industry suppliers, converters and companies who use foodservice packaging – launched a new grant program to help fund infrastructure improvements for polystyrene foam recycling. The program specifically targets foam products that are traditionally considered difficult to recycle, such as foam cups, clamshells, meat trays, and egg cartons. The grant underwriters hope to demonstrate the potential for polystyrene recycling.

AmSty is a member of the FRC and the Foodservice Packaging Institute ("FPI") and has provided a grant of $25,000 for recovery facilities interested in supporting the recycling of polystyrene foam. "This grant program is intended to support the purchase of densifying equipment by recycling facilities. We anticipate awarding the funds sometime in the late second quarter, and we hope to continue this program into the future," said Ian MacDougall, Director - Corporate Strategy and Planning for AmSty.

Additional funding from other contributors is also available as a part of this initiative. Grant applications will also be accepted for programs relating to residential curbside recycling programs, drop-off recycling centers and commercial recycling programs.
