Today, AmSty is a leading integrated producer of polystyrene and styrene monomer, offering solutions and service to customers in a variety of markets throughout the Americas. THIS IS HOW WE GOT HERE.

BIRTH OF AMSTY

AmSty is formed through the joint venture between Chevron Phillips Chemical Company (CPChem) and The Dow Chemical Company (Dow). Many employees from the original parent companies are still with AmSty today – which is a testament to AmSty’s mission, vision, values and company culture. Dow ownership is transferred to Trinseo (formerly Styron) in 2010.

2008

POLYRENEW® LAUNCH

The PolyRenew® brand of resin is launched as the first post-consumer recycled polystyrene product with FDA approval for foodservice in the United States.

2011

POLYRENEW® RESINS DO MORE WITH LESS

PolyRenew® resins are first used in recycled foam containers.

2013

AMERICAN CHEMISTRY COUNCIL (ACC) ADVANCED RECYCLING ALLIANCE FOR PLASTICS

AmSty commits to ACC as a charter member of their new alliance, focused on innovation and circularity for the plastics industry.

2014

ST. JAMES DEEPWATER DOCK

Construction is completed on the deep-water dock in St. James, Louisiana, providing AmSty’s styrene facility along the Mississippi River the capability to load and unload large oceangoing vessels.

AMSTY CONTRIBUTES TO FUNDING RECYCLING

infrastructure as a founding member of the Foodservice Packaging Institute’s Foam Recycling Coalition.

2015

PLANT MODERNIZATION

Major polystyrene plant modernization is completed with upgraded process control systems.

2017

TOP SAFETY PERFORMANCE

AmSty is recognized by the ACC for their commitment to safety, achieving top quartile safety performance as measured against ACC peers.

2018

REGENYX

AmSty forms Regenyx, a joint venture with Agilyx, to commercialize an innovative circular recycling process that breaks down polystyrene into its original raw material. It can then be used to make products with the same quality and durability as the original polystyrene. AmSty’s long-term vision is that polystyrene products should never be landfilled but reclaimed, reprocessed and reused again and again.

2019

ACC SUSTAINABILITY LEADERSHIP AWARD

AmSty receives the ACC Sustainability Leadership Award for the success in circular polystyrene recycling through Regenyx.

REGENYX ISCC PLUS CERTIFICATION

Our Regenyx facility is our first facility to become International Sustainability and Carbon Certified (ISCC) PLUS certified, along with our plants in St. James, Louisiana, and Hanging Rock, Ohio. The ISCC PLUS recognition is the global gold standard for sustainable practices.

POLYRENEW® EXPANSION

AmSty expands the PolyRenew® brand resin line with the launch of additional high efficiency products.

20,000,000 LBS RECYCLED

AmSty recycles more than 20 million pounds of polystyrene, keeping 2 billion 16 oz. cups out of the landfill.

2020

CYCLYX FOUNDING

AmSty becomes a founding member of Cyclyx, a post-use plastic feedstock management company.

SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT.

AmSty commits to achieve 30% recycled content in all foodservice packaging by 2030.

2021

ISCC PLUS CERTIFICATION

AmSty’s Allyn's Point plant is the most recent site to achieve ISCC Plus recognition. Five of our facilities are now ISCC Plus certified.

EMPLOYEE SAFETY MILESTONE

Marietta, Ohio, facility attains 1 million safe work hours.

ENCINA COMMITMENT

AmSty announces a commitment with Encina to purchase circular feedstocks from Encina's new advanced recycling facility in Pennsylvania when it comes online in 2025 and repurposes municipal plastic waste into new products. AmSty will purchase more to provide to customers as Encina builds more recycling facilities across the U.S.

2022

FIRST SALE OF POLYRENEW® CERTIFIED RECYCLED CREDITS

AmSty sells the first PolyRenew® certified recycled credits to customers, paving the way for a new, sustainable circular solution in the industry.

2023

30,000 LBS RECYCLED

AmSty recycles more than 30 million pounds of polystyrene.

REGENYX: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

We are proud to have completed a five-year proof-of-concept pilot project with Regenyx, a joint venture between AmSty and Agilyx, which demonstrates that the technology to recycle used polystyrene works.

2024

LOOKING AHEAD

All AmSty resin that goes into food packaging and foodservice products will be made from 30% recycled materials by 2030.
